walking with nemetona
Nemetona, whose name literally translates to “sacred space” or “sacred grove”, was revered by the ancient Celtic people as the energy of and that which watches over sacred spaces. She reminds us to pause and connect with these spaces in nature and within our homes. Goddess Nemetona can be thought of as the divine energy the Druids called upon in these ceremonial sites. She continues to watch over sacred sites, especially those connected with nature – she is the magical stillness deep within the forest; the deeply felt messages during a labyrinth ceremony. |
Rather than gathering in enclosed temples, Druids – the ancient priest caste of the Celtic society – celebrated and performed their rituals outdoors among the sacred groves – their nemetona (pronounced Nem-uh-TONE-uh).
